The Houston Amaryllis Society is the only non-profit Amaryllis society in Houston, Texas.
The Houston Amaryllis Society was formed in 1957. The meetings are held at the Houston Garden Center in Hermann Park the fourth Tuesday of the month (Sept thru May at 10 am) and lunch is served. The members bring books, horticulture, amaryllis and other garden items which are exchanged during the meeting. Discussions and presentations are held to provide insite and information on growing and caring for amaryllis.
We have one sale a year, at the Houston Garden Center in Hermann Park (Saturday and Sunday) with many varites of amaryllis and horticulture that are not available at local nurseries. The show also provides an exhibit with blooming amaryllis of many varieties and detailed information on growing and caring for amaryllis. We have at least one bus field trip to tour a nursery and have lunch.
The present Houston Garden Center in Hermann Park building was dedicated January 27, 1942.
